Pledging to put his years of business experience to work for Rensselaer County creating new jobs, economic activity and lower taxes, Wynantskill businessman Leon Fiacco announced his candidacy for the Rensselaer County Legislature.
Fiacco and his family own the popular Beverage Mart in Wynantskill and other commercial properties in the county. He and his wife Deana teamed up to establish Bella Moda, a popular full-service salon in North Greenbush.
Fiacco said he will draw on his 20 years of experience in developing and growing businesses in the county and meeting daily deadlines and budgets to help create new jobs and reduce taxes. Real business experience is needed with the nation facing historic fiscal and economic problems.
"Lower taxes, a better economy and new jobs are top priorities in our county. For two decades, I have been building businesses and I want to put that experience to work to help our county," said Fiacco.
"Everyday, I meet budgets and business deadlines, and for years, I have been creating jobs and adding to the tax base. With New York State facing historic economic problems and the highest taxes in the nation, that kind of private sector experience is needed in needed in government right now," added Fiacco.
Fiacco's business experience has already been recognized. The County Legislature voted to appoint Fiacco as a member of the Capital District Regional Planning Commission, which provides planning advice to four member counties in the Capital Region and assistance in obtaining grants. He is also a member of the county's Economic Recovery Committee, which is helping advocate for federal stimulus funding for projects in the county and the Environmental Management Council.
"Leon Fiacco is a hardworking and talented young businessman who has already accomplished a great deal. He has been a real asset to the Legislature and the county and we expect great things from Leon in the Legislature," said Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher.
He and his wife Dena are parents of a son and a daughter. They have friends and family throughout legislative District 2 and Leon is a graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush and Hudson Valley Community College.
Fiacco will be a candidate for Legislature in District 2, which includes the towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush and Poestenkill. Fiacco will be seeking the Republican, Independence and Conservative nominations.
